"Research by the University of York trialled over 240 patients who received acupuncture treatment over a two-year period. Acupuncture showed a more positive effect on patients with lower back pain between the 12-24 month trial period, where patients reported lower pain levels and a reduced use of pain killers. Some patients reported no pain at the end of the two year period."
As well as practising at clinics in Stockport and Manchester, I also provide a home visit call out service within the Stockport/Macclesfield area. This home visit call out service has been set up due to the undeniable fact that many people are simply unable to attend remote clinic locations. Reasons for this may be, not owning or not having access to transport, whilst others feel more comfortable in their own surroundings, as sometimes a clinical environment can be a little daunting. People with young families or demanding careers may also not be able to seek the help that they need.
Over the past four years I have found that many of my elderly patients have found this service invaluable because some have difficulty with mobility. Reduced mobility may be brought about by a whole host of medical conditions and Ill health concerns. However, previous experience has shown me that the number one candidate for this is Arthritis. Arthritis is more common in, but not limited to, the elderly population. UK statistics state that over nine million people in the UK have arthritis and one in five of the adult population in the UK live with arthritis. There are 12.000 children in the UK with arthritis and approximately 27,000 people living with arthritis are under the age of 25. In general acupuncture treatment gives tremendous benefit to people who are suffering from painful conditions and arthritis is no stranger to this.
